The Foundation segment dives into the core principles, structure, and practices of AgilePM, giving participants a solid grounding in how Agile projects are run from start to finish. Over these three days, learners build a strong conceptual understanding of Scrum and Agile philosophy while exploring the AgilePM lifecycle, key roles, essential products, and commonly used techniques.
By the end of this course, participants are fully prepared to sit the AgilePM Foundation exam, which is taken in class.

Who Should Attend
Ideal for project managers or project team members with limited Agile or Scrum background. This program does not teach basic project management; rather, it provides an Agile framework for those with existing project experience.
Official Prerequisites
- None for Scrum Essentials or AgilePM Foundation
- AgilePM Practitioner exam requires AgilePM Foundation certification
Required Pre-Course Preparation
- Review all pre-course communications to ensure access to materials
- Familiarize yourself with the Agile Manifesto and the AgilePM v3 Edition 2 Reference Book (sent in advance).
Certification & Exam Details
This course prepares participants for both the AgilePM Foundation and AgilePM Practitioner exams.
Note: The is an optional Scrum Essentials exam but this is not required to achieve the AgilePM certification. Scrum Essentials is also covered in the AgilePM Foundation exam.
AgilePM Foundation Exam
- Format: 50 multiple-choice questions
- Passing Score: 30/50 (60%)
- Style: Closed book
AgilePM Practitioner Exam
- Format: 4 scenario questions (60 objective test questions total)
- Passing Score: 30/60 (50%)
- Style: Open book (official AgilePM manual with notes/tabs permitted)

Module 1: Key Concepts and AgilePM Fundamentals
- Explain Business Agility and VUCA, and why agility is needed in projects
- Describe the Agile Manifesto values and principles adapted for project contexts
- Apply the AgilePM philosophy and ethos to balance time, cost, quality, and features
- Use the 8 Principles of AgilePM to guide project success
Module 2: Scrum Overview and Integration with AgilePM
- Describe the Scrum roles, events, artifacts, and commitments
- Explain Scrum theory and the three pillars of empiricism
- Integrate Scrum with AgilePM to align delivery and governance
Module 3: Individuals and Interactions
- Apply the 9 Principles of Agile Leadership in project contexts
- Define the responsibilities of key roles across value ownership, solution delivery, and delivery enablement
- Engage and collaborate effectively with stakeholders and team members
Module 4: Collaboration and Communication
- Define collaboration and recognize characteristics of collaborative teams
- Identify and address common communication pitfalls in projects
- Make progress and processes transparent through AgilePM practices
Module 5: Project Lifecycle Framework
- Describe the purpose and activities of the Pre-Project, Feasibility, Foundations, Delivery, Deployment, and Realization phases
- Distinguish between product and solution increments within the project lifecycle
Module 6: Requirements, Estimating, and Prioritisation
- Define requirements at different levels including epics and user stories
- Write user stories using the format, 4Cs, and INVEST model
- Apply MoSCoW prioritisation rules across project levels
- Estimate work in agile environments using appropriate techniques
Module 7: Planning, Control, and Risk
- Create delivery plans and backlogs to support project planning
- Monitor and report on progress using AgilePM practices and artifacts
- Apply risk management techniques including the Project Approach Questionnaire (PAQ)
Module 8: Governance and AgilePM Project Artifacts
- Explain the governance model and compliance requirements in AgilePM
- Identify and use AgilePM project artifacts such as the Business Case, Delivery Plan, and Benefits Assessment
- Define roles and accountabilities for effective project governance
Module 9: Foundation Exam
- Describe the exam format, structure, and timing
- Apply proven study techniques for exam success
