Course Description

It is an extremely important time as you plan and prepare yourself for your career or future employment. It is therefore vital that you make informed and planned decisions not only about your immediate future but also about where you want to be next year or perhaps in 3 to 4 years time.

To make such decisions about your future and your life you will need certain attitudes, skills, information and advice.

It is your responsibility to make sure you persist in getting the right information and therefore create your own opportunities. One of the reasons why people end up in jobs that they do not like is because they have not put enough thought into what they are interested in or enough planning into the action they need to take in order to get the job they would like to do.

We all have different skills, interests and abilities and there are many different types of jobs. By researching different jobs, preparing ourselves and finding out what we are capable of is a good way of ensuring we find the right job that will suit us.

This workshop will provide you with the skills, knowledge and information that will help you to prepare yourself for your new or next career.

Course Content

Some skills are transferable to most jobs. We will start by identifying transferable skills in employment. We will spend some time looking at ways to identify potential employers. The next session will focus on the application process.

  • How to make yourself stand out from the crowd

Covering Letters

Sometimes a covering letter is key to getting your toe in that door. We will look at writing covering letters that are short and snappy and support our CV.

Interviews

Interviews are an all-important part of the selection process. Our Application has got us our interview, so how do we then give our best at the interview? In particular we will focus on:

  • Preparation
  • Presenting yourself
  • Dress
  • Questions for you to ask
  • Questions you might be asked
  • The interview itself
  • What happens after the interview
  • Importance of body language
  • Demonstrating confidence and assertiveness

We will round off the workshop by doing some practical skills that give participants an opportunity to practice their new skills.

We finish the day with a review of key learning points and action planning.
