Course Description

This course covers the content of the Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health course but also expands on the effects of drugs and alcohol, incorporates the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan and covers ways in which a positive mental health culture can be supported within a workplace.

Mental Health First Aid gives groups/organisations the practical skills and awareness that is required to build a safe and healthy working environment. Whilst a Mental Health First Aider cannot diagnose or treat someone with a mental health condition, they will have the knowledge on how to start a conversation and where to signpost for professional help. This gives employee’s the opportunity to talk and feel supported, investing in a positive mental health culture for the future.

Course Content

A range of First Aid for Mental Health related subjects are covered including:

  • Identifying mental health conditions
  • Providing advice and starting a conversation
  • Stress
  • Mental health conditions
  • Drugs and alcohol
  • First Aid for Mental Health action plan
  • First Aid for Mental Health in the workplace

Assessment

Delegates can choose whether or not they wish to gain certification. A range of methods are used in certifying candidates, including practical and questioning (open and multiple-choice).

Certification

RQF Level 2 Award:

FAA Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health (RQF)

SCQF Level 5 Award:

Award in First Aid for Mental Health at SCQF Level 5

First Aid for Mental Health certification will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. This qualifcation is valid for three years from the date of achievement. It is strongly recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.
