We start off by looking at the differences and similarities between management and leadership. In identifying the skills and qualities of an effective leader, participants can start to become aware of their strengths and development areas.
Building on leadership qualities, we move to thinking about teamwork. In explaining the different stages of development that a team goes through before becoming a fully performing team, we explore the interventions required to move the team from one stage to the next. We discuss how team behaviours can experience set back at various stages and the different managerial styles required.
Communicating key messages is a key part of any effective managers role. Here we will explore the verbal and non-verbal elements of your communication. How do you ensure your message is not only given over but what do you need to do to ensure it is heard and clearly understood so that it is acted upon? We will discuss the communication process and ways that it can break down. This will enable us to develop strategies for effective communication in a variety of situations.
Motivation is a huge subject and there are so many theories relating to it. Instead of talking theory, we use some practical exercises to explore how to motivate our teams and come up with specific actions for use in the workplace.
With fewer resources at our disposal, we will spend some time discussing how your time is currently managed. We will provide you with a variety of tools and techniques that you can use to manage your time more effectively.
Managing people is very challenging because of the way we need to manage each person as an individual. In managing people, we are likely to have to deal with conflict. In this session, we spend some time identifying some of the key causes of conflict and subsequently how to manage it to ensure positive outcomes.
