About the Advanced Diploma

The BCS Advanced International Diploma in Business Analysis is designed to help senior business analysts gain independent, industry-wide recognition by demonstrating their experience, expertise, and contribution to the BA profession. Launched in 2015, it’s the next step for BCS Business Analysis Diploma holders, allowing business analysts to consolidate and develop their knowledge, and build their expertise. This advanced qualification enables professionals to showcase their skills and stand out in the field of business analysis.

Who is it for?

This diploma is intended for:

  • Experienced senior business analysts with at least five years of BA experience
  • Professionals who actively contribute to the development and promotion of the business analysis profession
  • Those looking to future-proof their career and build expertise and authority in the field

How to Obtain the Diploma

To achieve the Advanced International Diploma in Business Analysis, you need to:

  1. Meet the prerequisite certifications
  2. Demonstrate your experience through a written portfolio
  3. Show evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  4. Demonstrate contribution to the BA community

Prerequisites:

  • BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis
  • BCS Professional level BA certificates in each of the analytical, business, and people skills specialisms
  • Additional BCS Professional level BA certificate in either the analytical or business skills specialism
  • At least five years’ BA experience

* Candidates must choose an additional fourth module from either Analytical Skills or Business Skills.

Examination Process

Unlike other certifications, the BCS Advanced International Diploma in Business Analysis does not require an exam. Instead, candidates must submit a portfolio that demonstrates their experience, CPD, and contribution to the BA community. This portfolio should include:

  • Examples of business analysis work at SFIA level 5, with some work at SFIA level 6
  • Application of the Business Analysis Process Model
  • Evidence of stakeholder engagement or team leadership skills
  • Contribution to the wider BA community

The portfolio will be reviewed by BCS assessors. They may decide to award the diploma based on the portfolio alone or may require further discussion with the candidate or their supporters.

Recertification is required every three years to maintain the certification.
